Scrutinize Security
DataMirror adds more security to relational databases and @stake identifies security flaws.

JavaOne, June 29, 2004

DataMirror has launched PointBase version 5.0, which provides increased control and security for its PointBase Embedded and PointBase Micro Java relational databases and its PointBase UniSync, a Java-based, bi-directional data synchronization solution. A license key file that prevents unauthorized use has been added to these PointBase products. Additionally, PointBase Embedded now includes deadlock detection that traces transactions causing deadlocks in real time. Performance of the PointBase Embedded Server Option has been optimized with an improved client/server protocol, B-tree enhancements, and query processing enhancements. PointBase UniSync handles change of scope on clients during data entry by updating rows after synchronization. PointBase Micro now supports DataSource interfaces.

@stake has unveiled SmartRisk Analyzer, an automated solution for identifying the root cause of security flaws. SmartRisk Analyzer allows developers to perform in-depth analysis by mapping application control and data flow paths into a comprehensive security model. It then runs risk analysis scans against the model to identify and prioritize security vulnerabilities. SmartRisk Analyzer provides both detailed developer reports and summary reports for quality assurance and management.

Esmertec is demonstrating its JVM, Jbed Advanced. The first release of the Jbed Advanced series, which will be available in August 2004, includes Concurrent MIDlets; choice of Esmertec's FastBCC or FastDAC compilation engines within a unified code base; and optimized service libraries and porting modules for enhanced runtime performance and a smaller footprint. Esmertec's Jcap Brand Manager is also available with Jbed Advanced. The Jcap Brand Manager module enables device manufacturers to customize the J2ME software look and feel on their devices, and allows personalization with pre-installed or over-the-air (OTA) themes and wallpapers for end consumers.

From Visual Studio .NET, developers can access J2EE components such as Enterprise JavaBeans and debug applications across C#, VB.NET, and Java languages. Visual MainWin 1.2 supports JBoss, IBM WebSphere 5.1, BEA WebLogic 8.1, and Tomcat 5.0.
