JavaOne, June 28, 2004
Borland has introduced the next version of its performance testing and management product, Optimizeit ServerTrace 3. The updated Optimizeit ServerTrace 3 Test Edition can be integrated with third-party load testing tools, such as Empirix e-Load, Mercury LoadRunner, and Segue SilkPerformer. The new Optimizeit ServerTrace 3 Production Edition's hibernate mode, Transaction Tracer, captures on-demand, live performance diagnostics information when application problems occur. Optimizeit ServerTrace 3's new SOA view tracks and analyzes AXIS/SOAP and JAX-RPC Web services transactions, and an enhanced Progress Tracker capability tracks performance trends over time. Separately, Borland also announced Mac OS X support for its Optimizeit Suite.
Parasoft has debuted version 5.1 of its Jtest unit testing solution. Redesigned reporting features let managers access project status reports and development teams identify and correct coding problems more quickly. With the Jtest Quick Fix feature, users can automatically correct violations of more than 200 coding standard rules.
Ontometrics has launched its Ontometric Skills-Based Profiling tool designed to aid in recruiting, retaining, and enhancing development teams. The Ontometric Skills-Based Profiling tool allows companies and recruiters to create profiles for positions to be filled. It then generates appropriate tests for that position. These tests can also test and analyze code writing ability. Companies can use the tool to assess new hires' performance during probation periods and create tutorials for development team members.
Compuware has introduced the latest version of Compuware OptimalJ, a model-driven pattern-based (MDPB) development environment. Development teams use Compuware OptimalJ to generate applications from UML models. OptimalJ 3.2 includes support for all nine UML models for complete system analysis and systems requirement documentation. Compuware has added Eclipse integration to OptimalJ 3.2 Developer Edition's existing library of IDE plug-ins, and the product features new model-merge capabilities to ease collaboration between large enterprise development teams.
Version 3.2 also includes a subsystem architecture that allows sub-teams to work on different parts of a large development project. Compuware has also added IBM Rational ClearCase support to its existing CVS integration. Compuware OptimalJ 3.2 will be available on July 13 in three editions: Developer Edition, powered by IntelliJ (licenses start at $1,900 per named user); Professional Edition (licenses start at $5,000 per named user); and Architecture Edition (licenses start at $10,000 per named user).
