Choosing Favorites
What works for you? Find out which tools you and your colleagues use most to solve your everyday challenges

What tool is the best tool for the job? The choice is subjective. Do you work alone or in a group? Is your company large or small? What does the product cost? What are its features? All these factors and more help determine which tools are right for the job.
So every year we ask you what your favorites are. You're the people who work with the products, use them every day, understand their nuances, and earn a living from them. We want to know your favorite products, the tools you prefer for development tasks. Our Readers Choice survey helps to show us what you depend on most to get your work done.
Overall, the results are not surprising. The big companies continue to split the lions' share of the market, but smaller companies still do well in the spaces they cover. The finalist lists were often very close, which might suggest that despite industry consolidation, competition is strong and the market remains vibrant. And whether you're the top vote getter, a finalist, or you use a product that didn't make the last cut, the product that's right for you is still the best product, even if it doesn't win an award.
The winners were announced during the Java Pro Live! Conference held October 17-19 in Boston. Congratulations to all.
