Service-oriented architecture (SOA) is a design methodology aimed at maximizing the reuse of application-neutral services to increase IT adaptability and efficiency. It is an approach to building composite applications from reusable services. The adoption of SOA is accelerating due to the emergence of standards-based integration technologies such as Web services and XML. Services are now implemented in a variety of ways, making it challenging to write an application to invoke these services in a common, consistent manner. In their Java Pro Live! session, Sushil Shukla and Sudhrity Mondal shared insights into some of the issues and possible solutions for invoking diverse service implementations.
