Life After the Boom
FTPOnline: What kind solutions have you been implementing recently?
Lillie: One thing we've been noticing: It seems as if during the boom, sites were complex and technical, with lots of tasks for app servers, EJB, and personalization. Now, after the crash, things have gotten low-tech and cheap. [The typical dot-com startup was] pushing a new biz concept with serious money. Now it's, "If we invest $10,000 out of profits, we want to make sure it's going to bring us $20,000." As a result, solutions are low-tech and cheaper. They're still within a J2EE architecture, but they require a smaller build-out. There's less [demand for] content management and personalization.
The demand for e-commerce solutions hasn't gone away completely, however. We're currently on site with a client implementing a J2EE commerce solution using our component set, for example.
