This summer, IBM released the IBM WebSphere Software Developer Kit (SDK) for Web services, to promote the adoption of Java-based Web services by Windows and Linux developers. The free developer kit is available for download from IBM.

FTPOnline Editor-in-Chief Tim Haight spoke recently with Robert S. Sutor, IBM's Director of e-business Standards Strategy, about the significance of the SDK release and IBM's view of the future evolution of Web services standards and technology.

Sutor is responsible for establishing IBM's strategy for developing and promoting standards such as XML and Web services. Sutor has been a member of the board of directors and Vice-Chair of the OASIS-United Nations/CEFACT ebXML initiative. Prior to his current position, Sutor was IBM's Program Director of XML Technology. In that role, he drove IBM's integrated strategy and technology plans for XML as well as support for open standards activities and technical partnerships in the industry.
