VSLive! SF, Day 1, February 12, 2002 — The whole world—the whole development world, anyway—has been waiting for years for the event that finally happens tomorrow. That's when Bill Gates will stand up at VSLive! and announce to the world that Visual Studio .NET is shipping. (If you haven't already signed up to have us ping you when the Webcast of this event is available, you still can. Just click here.)

The official launch of VS.NET is only one of the things developers and IT professionals can expect at VSLive!, though. And so, today through Thursday, we'll send you .NET Insight daily instead of weekly. Now, if you're like me, too much e-mail from a person or company is an invitation to get the spam filter applied, so we'd better have a good reason for showing up in your inbox three days in a row. Fair enough. Here are just a few reasons why you should check out .NET Insight these three days.

Watch the Keynotes: Tomorrow, Bill Gates and Anders Hejlsberg (chief C# architect) will kick off the launch of VS.NET. We'll have the video of the event ready for you to view in your browser that same day. Thursday, we'll have another keynote presentation: William A. Swope, Vice President and Co-General Manager of Intel's Software and Solutions Group, will lay out Intel's Web Services vision. Also, tune in to next week's .NET Insight, when we present Mike Devlin, CEO of Rational, in his Friday keynote address.

Apps, Tips, and Code: Throughout the week, presenters at VSLive! will show attendees the latest .NET programming techniques. Each day, we'll have a sampling of these development strategies for you. Today, for example, Rockford Lhotka shows you how to autodeploy assemblies with just a couple lines of code and Jeffrey Richter explains how to use the C# unsafe mode to get super-fast array access, among others. In the days ahead, presenter Juval Lowy will show you a sample app that demonstrates how to automate synchronization, Jay Schmelzer will give you code demonstrating how to build a localizable Web site with ASP.NET, and Jon Rauschenberger will show you how to map XML documents to CLR objects and vice versa. I could go on, but you get the gist.

Announcements and Analysis: Throughout the show, a number of companies will be releasing exciting new technologies. We'll round up the products for your review, and we'll have experts you trust giving their impressions of these new tools.

But Wait, There's More: The winners from last year's Web Services contest are presenting at "Midnight Madness .NET," a fun evening VSLive! session where FTP group publisher Jeff Hadfield hands out equal portions of t-shirts and comedy. We'll give you details of their winning entries. We'll have details of the results of the Visual Studio Magazine Readers Choice Awards. We'll have previews and quotes from the .NET Extensibility and Integration Roundtable. And we'll have more.

In short, in each of these VSLive! Show Daily editions of .NET Insight, you'll get tons of great info and tools you can use today. You won't want to miss a single issue.
