Hewlett-Packard |
Overview |
Among the top performance and availability management software vendors,
Hewlett-Packard Co. is distinguished by being the largest vendor that has
mostly distributed systems revenue (i.e., a relatively small percentage of
mainframe revenue) vs. other systems management vendors. HP continued its
strategy of using acquisitions to augment the HP OpenView management software
in 2004, announcing an agreement to buy two management software companies:
Novadigm Inc. and Consera Software. HP is marching forward with its "adaptive
infrastructure" strategy to help enterprises get more utilization out of their
resources. HP is also working with BEA Systems, Tibco Software, webMethods, and
Iona Technologies to contribute a Web services management specification to a
distributed-management working group within the Organization for the
Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS). The submission is
designed to give businesses a standard method for modeling a Web services
application and for designing the interactions between different Web
services. The submitted standard would let application developers
incorporate management services such as authentication and quality of service
as they build applications. |
