Table 1 SQL Server Hit $1 Billion Revenue in 2001
SQL Server 2000's higher performance/cost ratio, lower management costs, and free added features convinced enterprise users to step up licensing. According to the Gartner Group's Coleen Graham, as reported by The UNIX Guardian (see Resources), Microsoft's year-to-year SQL Server revenue increased by 16.8 percent in 2002, 11.1 percent in 2003, and 18.0 percent in 2004. These results were substantially better than the growth rate of Microsoft's primary competitors.
